Want to play some football?

Hey everyone.  If anyone of you are interested in joining our flag football team w/ some of us here at EFCC, please let me know.  We are preparing for a flag football tournament on February 10th.  The style of play is flag, but it's full contact.  In other words, aggressive blocking and rushing.  About the only thing missing is the tackling itself.

If any of you from other EFC's, or whoever you are who know me and somehow are reading this , want to play please let me know!  We practice every Sunday out here in Cerritos area if you can make it out.  We need more bodies, especially on the OL/DL.  If interested just drop me a comment or contact me somehow. (phone, email, IM)

If you are not familiar with football or don't really play much, or don't like a lot of contact, this message is probably not for you, but I'm glad you are at least reading this thus far

UCLA 13 USC 9: BRUINS WIN!!

So, what would get me to update my xanga finally?  How about....

UCLA PUTTING THE DEFENSIVE BEAT DOWN ON USC???

They shut down that Trojan offense all game long.  Wow, the most excited I've been about a sports victory since...I don't know when.  Maybe the Lakers back to back win in the '88-89 years.  (I know that really dates me)

Most of all, I'm happy for Karl Dorrell (UCLA's coach).  Glad to see such a high character guy get the win he deserves.  GO UCLA!!!!!!!!!

Reggie Carter Stands over Booty Sea of Bruins

Oh, by the way, our family is doing great.  Our kids played sports this past fall for the first time!  They did great!  Kaetie played soccer and Josiah played football.  I actually ended up being the head coach for Josiah's football team.  That was a great time.

DSC01428 Our Future Bruins! (hahaha)

Jamie and I are doing well, although we're currently battling our annual flu issues (what else is new? Hahha).  Jamie is as beautiful as ever.  Here we are at Disneyland some months ago...enjoy!  Until another year....

One of my favorite verses has always been:

"No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends." ~ John 15:13

Of course this love is indicative of Jesus Christ's love for the world, for every rotten sinner, for noble person, for you and me.  We all go along in life assuming and hoping that we would live up to this great standard of love when given the opportunity.  We would step up to the challenge if called upon.  We would rise to the occasion when it presents itself without warning.  We would not so much as hesitate for a moment to sacrifice our well being for the sake of another's.

I have  a greater appreciation for this verse with the recent tragic, yet heroic passing of Tae Ho Lee.  For those who know him and are reading this, you already have a glimpse of the legacy he has left behind.  For those who don't know him, Tae Ho Lee was a graduating senior at Claremont High School.  Nearly three years ago, I pastored at Covenant United Methodist Church in Pomona.  At the time, he was only a freshman or sophomore.  (It's late and I really don't want to do the math.)

I can't say I had the best relationship with him, or a very close one.  His seemingly premature passing makes me regret not taking more time to get to know him more.  But if I remember anything about him, he wouldn't hold that against me.  That's just how he was.  As I reflect back, Tae Ho was one of those kids (remember, I always think of him as a freshman in high school) a youth pastor loves to have in their youth group.  I can't think of one negative thing to say about him.  I can't think of one bad experience.  As a matter of fact, I can't think of one moment when he didn't have that signature smile that everyone familiar with him knows all too well.  I can still hear his voice when he greeted me, and he always did.  His face welcomed you whether you spoke Korean or English.  I can't help but feel that even though i have not spoken with him for more than 2 years, I will miss him.  Even though I probably didn't have longer than a 5 minute conversation with him alone before, I wish I could have 5 hours right now.

One day, we will all stand before the Lord and give an account for our lives.  We hope our lives reflected the love of Jesus.  Christians young and old, teenagers or middle aged and everywhere in between, struggle with hypocrisy and living up to the standards Christ set before us.  We often think it's too hard, too costly, too demanding.  For a brief moment in time, it wasn't too hard, nor too costly, nor too demanding.  For Tae Ho, he fulfilled Christ's love.  It costed him his life on earth, but his reward was eternity--something we all hope for whenever our time comes.  I am confident that when he stands before the Lord, Tae Ho will hear something along the lines of, "Well done, good and faithful servant.  Enter into the joy of the Lord."

He shows me how much a brief moment in time can make a difference in another person's life.  What a great young man.  Please join many others in praying for the family and loved ones that are left to cope with their loss.

Well, I guess it's about time to update.....Well, I am now 30 years old.  Yes, 30.  I just celebrated my 30th birthday last Wednesday (May 31).  I don't feel a day older than, well, 30.  But I still don't look a day older than 21!  Well, until you get closer and realize I'm getting white hair like crazy.  Then you can accept 30

I had a great birthday.  Jamie surprised me with a HOT AIR BALLOON RIDE!!  It was awesome.  The day was beautiful.  We woke up at 3 a.m. (Yes, a.m.)  Drove to Temecula.  We got out of the car and it was still dark.  We looked out to see the beautiful stars.  JUST as Jamie got into the car, I looked out into the sky, and saw a SHOOTING STAR!  She just missed it.  It was a good start to a great day.  We finally got up into the air and the ride was for about an hour and 15 min.  I guess now I can cross this out of my long list of things i want to do.  The more I think of it, turning 30 isn't such a bad thing.  I'm actually really looking forward to see what God has in store for us "MyNext 30 Years" (Thanks Diane!)

Things have been great w/ me and the fam.  Kids are growing like crazy.  Josiah will start flag football in the end of summer.  Kaetie will be playing soccer about the same time.  They are both excited.  Jamie is doing well...looking beautiful as ever.  She's working hard keeping us "kids" happy and healthy.

Church has been going pretty good lately.  The Guys Appreciation Dinner was great!  Thanks ladies!  It'll be interesting to see how the summer goes since many people will be gone for various reasons.  Let's all pull together and have a great summer, k?

In case it's another 8 months until I update again:  SUMMER RETREAT:  August 18-21st

Leave comments...love to hear from all of you....hopefully I check it
